CLUBE NAVAL DE CASCAIS

Clube Naval de Cascais (CNC) is located on the Bay of Cascais, right on the Atlantic Ocean and 11 miles from Lisbon.

It was founded in 1938 and was primarily dedicated to the promotion and development of sailing in Portugal, and to the upholding of the traditional values of sportsmanship in the pursuit of excellence, that has been reached by many of its sailors at both national and international level.

Since the 1950´s, CNC operates a sailing school for all age groups, and from 2006 runs a disabled sailing program, both, presently, the most active in Portugal. CNC also instructs competition teams in different classes, namely Optimist, 420 and Laser and provides official courses for all levels of national amateur licenses to operate boats.

Sailors formed and trained in the CNC have, over the years, regularly won several major international sailing titles in varied classes, including disabled sailing. CNC sailors have frequently constituted the majority of the Portuguese Olympic sailing team, with 9 sailors in the 2012 London Olympics competing in 5 Olympic sail classes and 4 sailors in Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2 different sail classes.

Over the years, Clube Naval de Cascais was awarded more than once, noteworthy for the assignment of the Naval Distinction Vasco da Gama in 2001, with the Medal of Honor of the City of Cascais in 2007 and, in its 75th anniversary, with the honorary title of Member of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique assigned by the President of Portugal in 2013, for the recognition of the work done during that time. Also, worth to mention, the realization of ISAF's Centenary Official Celebrations in 2007, which were held in Estoril, after a winning bid driven by the CNC.

Currently, CNC has reciprocal agreements with the following Clubs:

Yach Club de Monaco, Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro, Cabanga-Iate Clube de Pernanbuco, Royal Honk Kong Yacht Club, NordDeutscher Regatta Verein, Real Club Marítimo del Abra – Real Sporting Club, Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, Clube Naval de Luanda, Royal Thames Yacht Club, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Monte Real Clubyates de Bayona, Gstaad Yacht Club, Iate Clube de Santos.

CNC is one of the world acknowledged best venues to organize all type of sailing competitions. The CNC runs a very active annual schedule of different type of regattas that represented 115 days of sail racing. These regattas range from monthly club races to regattas for international centerboard and keel boat classes, like national selection, regional, national championships.

Presently, the most active fleets in the CNC are the Dragon, SB20, Laser, 420, Hobbie Cat, Snipe and Optimist along with several IRC/ORC yachts.

Over the years, the CNC has held major regattas such as World, European, Northern Hemisphere and Iberian championships and Gold Cups in classes such as the Optimist, 470, Laser, Finn, Star, Snipes, Dragons, Laser SB3, Mini Ton, Match Race, Windsurf, etc.

Cascais Vela (2000-2016) 


Since 2000, Clube Naval de Cascais hosts one big event, Cascais Vela, its major national annual event both in sailing (IRC/ORC yachts, dragons, LaserSB3 and classic yachts) and in social aspects (Bye Bye Summer party – the now traditional largest annual Cascais social party).

The facilities of the CNC can easily accommodate all of the sailing and social activities, including the large international sailing events. It has a Club House with a bar, a library, several multipurpose modular rooms, a junior lounge, a small gymnasium and a restaurant. There’s also the administrative offices, locker rooms and storage spaces and about 8.000 square meters of open air dry storage area for boats up to 12m with two cranes (max. lift 4 tons), two large ramps, 3 disembarkation pontoons and 30 moorings for boats up to 9 meters.

Cascais Marina

The Cascais Marina is located next to Clube Naval de Cascais. With a capacity for 650 vessels, Cascais Marina has been constantly improving its facilities and services so that its already exceptional conditions – on land and in the sea – can be enjoyed by all who use them.

In the protected outer basin, Cascais Marina has a Mega Yacht Quay, exclusively for yachts measuring over 36 meters. You can also find in the Marina a large area with restaurants and shops.
